Artist’s Statement

Giesla Hoelscher is a visual digital artist from Saint Paul, MN with a love and respect for historic landmarks, popular establishments and events. That love and respect is expressed through her main body of work which are collages in which depth and interest are created by layering and blending original photographs using digital techniques. 

As she grows as an artist, she is developing more painterly collages in which she explores bold and personal feelings. Different from the more commercial look of the location collage, she uses found images and items, illustrations, stock photographs and original photographs. She is currently exploring mixed media techniques such as stamping, painting and other paper altering methods to add interest to the collage after it is printed.
