John Alspach

John is a local artist that works out of his studio in Minneapolis. He is inspired by materials, so they become his subjects.  Instead of using paint and canvas to depict a landscape, he uses a landscape to show something about the paint.

Some of his past subjects have used old billboards, advertising posters or discarded photo paper as their foundation.  John sees exciting opportunities wherever he looks  Dumpsters and alleys provide a rich vein of materials that seems unlikely to ever be depleted. The challenge is to take things you would never notice and make it something to look at again and again.
