Artist’s Statement
My work reflects an architectural and iconographic landscape perceived from commercial cities and developing sprawl. Some of these works are far more abstract in nature due to the connection I have with the work. The landscapes that seem more directly representational are devoid of what we would normally consider natural surroundings i.e.: trees, shrubs, grass. This is because I see these power lines, parking lot lights and medians as the natural expectation of our new environment. These are spaces that involve reductive aesthetics in a commercially embedded architecture. Geometric and based in a language of commercial desire and aspiration, our environment is coated in a non-stick Teflon. By shattering shared reality and focusing on personal vision, the corneal scars of commercial saturation begin to soften.
