Artist’s Statement

I enjoy traveling. Aside from the obvious enjoyments of travel it also gives me a chance for artistic exploration. New environments, whether natural or created, engage me. When I'm engaged in any experience my memory becomes active, observing and absorbing what it can. The experiences that result are now committed to memory. Those experiences are then kept in momentum when experiences of travel are reexamined with energy and focus once the initial phase is over. These works here represent those experiences and that momentum, as memory has brought them back into being. None of these were created on location. Rather, they were created using a photograph as an initial guide and as the work moved through phases of development. As the memories of those experiences became more prominent, the photographs became less and less necessary ultimately resulting in what is seen here.
