Artist Statement
Most of my image making seems to be about some kind of distillation process in which I am trying to get to the essence of something.
These images begin with photographs of objects and fragments from the external world which are then altered (in the conventional darkroom and digitally) to result in a statement that combines form and feeling.
The interactions of various techniques and materials along with a somewhat vague, undefined, (yet very real) sense of what I am looking for, function as guidelines to the realization of the final image.
It’s one way of attempting to establish contact with certain kinds of experience. Some types of feeling seem to always lie just beyond the threshold of consciousness. Every now and then a little something pokes through.
